Historic Restoration is a field of total dedication and expertise. It is not for the faint of heart or inexperienced. This is an area of remodeling that we have been known for both in Sarasota and the northeast, where we really got our training since there are obviously more historic homes there than in Sarasota.
Sarasota has had a varied and interesting history of what are now known as “Historic” construction. Unfortunately, too many builders and architects are more inclined to tear these magnificent older homes and buildings down to build yet another bastardized “Mediterranean” box than to restore the beauty of the vintage older building. I believe that it just might be easier and more profitable, or they just don’t have the experience in restoration.
There is nothing more beautiful and rewarding than a beautifully restored historic structure. The restoration process is challenging in many ways. First of all, bringing the structure into compliance with the new building and energy codes. Yes it is a challenge but for the most part can be done. We have done it many times and will continue to do it. We are passionate and love the end results and the Historic homes we have restored are a testament to our passion.
Please contact us for an opportunity to show you what we can and have done to do our part in the preservation of our beautiful Historic structures here in Sarasota. Please, give us the opportunity to show you how we can restore your Historic home before you tear it down.
HISTORIC RESTORATION
1925 historic Dutch Colonial
Here is a 1925 historic Dutch Colonial that we brought completely into compliance with the new building code and energy code. In order to meet the new codes and hurricane requirements we tied it down from the new, reinforced footings and all the way to the roof, added impact windows and doors, new insulation, air conditioning, electrical and plumbing. We also maintained the original historic flavor by redoing all the floors, trim and added a new “state of the art” kitchen to add to the livability of the lovely home.
HISTORIC RESTORATION
1925 historic West of the Trail home
We added a screened porch to this home but you would never know it wasn’t built that way when it was new! We took a considerable amount of time to ensure that the new porch would blend nicely with the original style. We then replaced the roof, fixed all the little annoying defects and painted the home.
HISTORIC RESTORATION
1926 historic Dutch Colonial
We brought this well constructed “old timer” right up to code and made it a much safer and more economical home while maintaining it’s original style.
HISTORIC RESTORATION
Below is our 1790 Historic Greek Revival home in West Dover, Vermont (Mt. Snow) that we restored from the ground up. The home was originally built in 1790 on the top of the mountain of the 80 acre estate but with too much trouble with Indians in 1860 it was moved down the hill in the winter with two teams of Oxen to it’s current location. An admirable accomplishment considering the lack of equipment and technology in those times!
HISTORIC RESTORATION
1925 Newtown restoration project
Below is a 1925 Historic home that was obviously a product of gross neglect. It was almost a tear down but we took the extra time and efforts required to restore it to its current condition. We are very proud of this accomplishment. This is the typical project that would be torn down and replaced with yet another newer style home that will never have the charm and history of this old timer. Please note the before pictures to help you appreciate what we started with!
